ResumoElectron transfer over distances of more than 40 Å through a DNA double strand (see schematic representation on the right) still stimulates controversy about mechanism but seems to be proven experimentally. Biochemical processes such as repair of photodimer damage can be initiated by DNA electron transfer. The dependence of electron transport on how nearly perfect a DNA base stack is suggests that conductivity can be used to quantify stacking quality or to recognize a DNA single strand.
