Resumo

The HeartMate II is a small quiet implanted axial flow left ventricular assist device designed to meet the needs of heart failure patients, with the potential for excellent reliability and quality of life. In this report we present the initial results from the clinical trial started in November 2003 with the redesigned device, using smooth titanium to replace the textured titanium stators.
