The nomenclature of these nodular growths has varied according to the amount and character of the epithelium and its resemblance to known viscera. Thus the large majority of the ectopic foci have been called aberrant or accessory pancreatic tissue, while other designations include "adenomyoma," "Brunner's adenoma," and "incompletely differentiated accessory pancreas." In 1940 Clarke suggested the term "myo-epithelial hamartoma" as an all-inclusive one, to cover all such nodular masses of developmental origin. This designation seems the most applicable.
