Resumo

The exact location of the greater palatine foramen is important to clinicians when administering certain types of local anaesthesia as well as performing certain surgical procedures in the hard and soft palate. In this study the exact relationship of the greater palatine foramen to the pterygoid hamulus and molar teeth was assessed in 100 negroid skulls. The results of this study indicate that the greater palatine foramen is situated between 10 mm and 16 mm anteromedial to the pterygoid hamulus and is usually distal to the mid-palatal aspect of the third maxillary molar.
