Resumo

Abstract A model of a paramagnetic isotropic elastic material with small Young's modulus is proposed, wherein the stress tensor contains additional terms involving products of strain and field components. The new `cross’ terms produce an effective Young's modulus which depends on the magnetic field, whereas the classical model does not predict an influence of a magnetic field on deformation.
