The process of constructing documentary information as well as the knowledge process use content segmentation, analogy and generalization. Starting with the discussion of Umberto Eco’s text ´Marco Polo e o unicornio´, we intend to show that documentary information is not an a priori fact, but it is related to contents segmentation carried out from organization hypothesis. These operations must be supported by terminology to give more consistency to documentary languages.
