Resumo

Abstract: The deprotonation of hydrochloride salts of ethyl and methyl esters of amino acids and peptides is accomplished using activated zinc dust. The reaction is neat and quantitative. Thus, the free amino acid esters and peptide esters have been isolated in good yield and purity.
