Resumo

IT IS well recognized that the control of coccidiosis is the primary reason for the use of nicarbazin in chick rations. However, because of the great importance of so many factors in broiler production today, it is necessary to characterize what effects a feed additive such as nicarbazin may have on growth and feed efficiency of the birds. Although coccidiosis is essentially eliminated as a problem when nicarbazin is used, any effects of the drug on growth and feed conversion appear to become more important as possible influences upon the maximum return from the broiler operation. The early laboratory experiments and pilot trials, most of which were conducted prior to the commercial introduction of nicarbazin in January 1955, indicated that this substance could be fed at levels at least up to 0.0125 percent in the diet without adversely affecting growth or feed efficiency (Ott et al., 1955, 1956; Fogg et . . .
