Resumo

For 500 years, Albrecht Dürer (1471–1528) has remained the prince of engraving and woodcarving. Originally a pupil of his father, the goldsmith Albrecht Dürer the Elder, Dürer was a remarkably well-travelled man for his time, having visited Venice, Padua, and Bologna during the height of the Renaissance period, where Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Mantegna were contemporaries. At this time Padua was one of the centres of European medicine and would have given Dürer an ideal opportunity to see local people with obvious disease and to study their malformations. 1 Ficker F Albrecht Dürer und die Medizin seiner zeit.
