The first heterocyclic circulene, octathio[8]circulene, was recently synthesized through a highly efficient sulfurization and pyrolysis sequence (see picture; S yellow, C gray). This macrocyclic compound as well as chiral, helical oligothiophenes are rigid structures that open fascinating possibilities for applications in molecular electronics.
