Resumo

Objective: to investigate the profile of accidents and occupational diseases among workers of the municipality of Jequie, state of Bahia, Brazil, registered in the National Social Security Institute, in 2008-2009. Methods: cross-sectional descriptive study based on data from the Occupational Accidents Registries (CAT) provided by the Reference Center on Occupational Health (Cerest). Results: 144 new cases of occupational accidents and diseases were registered; typical accidents were the most frequent (44.5%), followed by commuting accidents (33.3%), and work-related diseases (22.2%). The majority of notifications (80.6%) were by the employer, followed by Cerest (11.1%) and the union of workers (7.6%); industrial transformation sector had the highest number of accidents (40.6% of typical accidents; 54.1% of commuting accidents). Conclusion: similarity was observed on local occurrence compared with types of accidents and occupational diseases involving workers in Brazil.
