Resumo5-Fluorocytosine is, in fungi sensitive to the preparation, a competitive inhibitor of cytosine. In humans no metabolisation of the preparation takes place, and up to about 80% of it is excreted with the urine. It should therefore be an ideal substance for treating candidosis of the urinary tract. 5-Fluorocytosine was used in 6 cases of candidosis of the urinary tract and in 2 cases of Nystatin-resistant oral candidosis. In all patients the fungi disappeared and the conditions cleared up rapidly. There were no subjective side-effects, neither was there any effect on blood-picture, transaminases or kidney function.
