ResumoRabbits immunized with H polypeptide chains of human γ-globulin develop specific antibodies for both the clear and turbid (polymerized) preparations. The reactivity for the latter was relatively transient and barely detectable within 4 weeks after a single injection. The rabbit antisera resembled the human rheumatoid factors in demonstrating interaction with antigenic determinants induced by conformational changes in human γ-globulin or its subunits. These determinants were detected in polymerized H chains, the Fab fragments and in the intact γ-globulin molecule denatured by treatment with 6 M urea or heat.
