ResumoNeurovirulence of several mumps virus strains was assessed in a prototype rat neurovirulence test and compared to results obtained in the monkey neurovirulence test. The relative human neurovirulence of these strains was proportional to the severity of hydrocephalus in rats but not to lesion scores in the monkeys.
