Resumo

A case of traumatic rupture of the diaphragm with herniation of the transverse colon and omentum into the pericardial sac is presented with scan findings. Subsequent (postoperative) development of pericardial effusion made possible a comparison of scans in intrapericardial hernia and pericardial effusion. In this instance, they are identical. From a review of previously published cases, however, they could not be expected to be similar in every case.
