ResumoThe influence of content variables on syllogistic reasoning was studied in an experiment which compared the differential difficulty of a series of problems of this kind. The semantic characteristics of the problems were manipulated in order to induce or dissuade the subjects from the correct answer. Compared 10 an abs- tract test, performance improved in the former case (inducing) and dropped in the latter (dissuading). The results are explained in terms of the model proposed by Johnson-Laird & Bara (1984).
