ABSTRACT Larvae of seventeen species of Culicidae were collected from the following ten freshwater springs in the Dead Sea area: 'En Duyuk, 'En Qalya, 'Ein Fashkha, 'Ein el Ghuweir, 'Ein et Turaba, Nahal Dawid, Nahal 'Arugot, 'En Mishmar, 'En Namer, and Neot HaKikar. This was the first time that Culex sinaiticus Kirkpatrick, C. pusillus Macquart, C. mimeticus Noe and Anopheles rhodesiensis Lewis have been found in the Dead Sea area. C. sinaiticus was the most abundant Culex species and A. sergentii (Theobald) the most abundant Anopheles species. Of all the springs in the Dead Sea area, Nahal 'Arugot and 'Ein Fashkha springs supported the largest number of species of mosquito larvae.
