ResumoSummary : A phenetic analysis of the genus Thelocactus is presented. The collected data, 65,and the 34 Operational Taxonomic Units used forthe study were processed by a principal compo-nents analysis method. The ordinations madelead us to conclude that Hamatocactus setispinus is not congeneric with Thelocactus from which ithas to be separated. Some nomenclaturalchanges are also made in order to adjust the tax-onomy of the genus to the results obtained. Zusammenfassung : Es wird eine phanetischeAnalyse der Gattung Thelocactus vorgestellt. Diefur die Studie gesammelten Daten (65) und die34 operationellen taxonomischen Einheiten wer-den einer Hauptkomponentenanalyse unterzo-gen. Die Ordinationen fuhren uns zur Folgerung,dass Hamatocactus setispinus nicht in dieGattung Thelocactus gehort und separiert wer-den muss. Einige nomenklatorische Anderungenbringen die Taxonomie der Gattung mit dengefundenen Resultaten in Einklang.
