ResumoThis article begins with a discussion about the determination of scales in environmental history research, as proposed by Emily Wakild; later, it examines these scales towards the cultural practices of a specific group that climbed, in the first half of the twentieth century, the mountains of Marumbi -a massif located in the Paraná Serra do Mar.Despite an emphasis on the cultural approach, the intent is to demonstrate with this case study how several scales can juxtapose when analyzing interactions involving a place, its inhabitants and the nature surrounding them.
