Resumo

Urinalysis is one of the oldest forms of diagnosis, defined by ABNT as: “test performed on a sample of human urine to determine the chemical and physical characters, further on verifying the presence of cellules structures from another source.” It is the third survey most performed in the clinical laboratory, it evaluates the suspected urinary tract infection (UTI). The UTI is characterized by the presence of pathogenic bacteria, can be identified by physical, chemical, microscopic, gram satin and culture of the urine. This study aims to determine the frequency of samples suggestive of UTI in the group studied by the exam of Urine type I, relate to gender and to correlate the findings with symptoms reported. It was used urine samples from 62 randomly selected patients, aged between 18 to 95 years. The tests showed 43% of normal exams and 57% had changes in some analysis; 11% of samples were suggestive of UTI, all were females. Despite the low percentage found in this research, this is an epidemiological data that must be considered and that shows the importance of more rapid and sensitive screening tests for UTI.
