Economic Theory and Institutions

Resumo

The concept institution is a very important one, in economics as well as in sociology. The meaning of the concept, however, differs very much when we compare various schools of thought that dominate the debates in the two disciplines. The differences between the typical economic and the typical sociological approach on the one hand and the more heterodox approaches on the other hand reflect principal differences in ontology, epistemology and methodology. Only via a well designed social science curriculum a deep understanding of economic and social institutions can be achieved. Then not only economic aspects, but also psychic, social and political aspects can be dealt with appropriately - so as to create a more realistic picture that functions as an analytical foundation for empirical research.
