Resumo

Amazonia has undergone severe changes caused by human activities, among which stands out the transformation of forest areas in areas of agricultural use, resulting in the intensification of erosion processes. In this context, the aim of this study was to apply the empirical model RUSLE (Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation) in the upper reaches of the Prata catchment. The catchment with an approximate area of 32,7 km², which is located in the municipality of Capitao Poco (state of Para), approximately 160 km from the capital Belem. The methodology consisted of the construction of a base georeferenced data, which have undergone adjustments for inclusion in the GIS. The data and application of GIS with RUSLE allowed the generation of a map of soil loss in the study area, which was used for the determination of soil loss tolerance of the catchment. The Prata catchment presented values of soil loss ranging between 0.004 and 72.48 t ha -1 year -1 , and an average of 5.12 t ha -1 year -1 . In this case, approximately 12 % of the catchment area presented environmental risks due to erosion. Keywords : Amazon; erosion; GIS; change of land use.
