Resumo

During the last 12 years studies have been made of the strigeid cercariae of the Douglas Lake region in connection with a program on the life cycles in this group (see Cort and Brooks, 1928; Cort and Brackett, 1937a and Cort and Brackett, 1938). Including the two in the present paper, a total of 17 species of strigeid cercariae are now described from this region. Work on several more rare forms is still under way and one or more new species appear in the collections almost every summer. It is hoped that the detailed descriptions of these cercariae will aid workers at the University of Michigan Biological Station and elsewhere in solving further life cycles in this group. The two new species of strigeid cercariae that will be described in the present paper are very unusual in having two of their four penetration glands in front and two behind the ventral sucker. They are both rather rare species found in Stagnicola palustris elodes (Say). For the larger of the two species, which has very large penetration glands, we propose the name Cercaria macradena n. sp. and for the other form in which these glands are unusually small we propose the name Cercaria micradena n. sp. The methods used in the study of these cercariae have already been described in an earlier paper (Cort and Brackett, 1937a).
