RESUMO Como o titulo sugere, narra um episodio de castracao cometido pelo famoso cangaceiro Virginio Fortunato, no municipio de Buique, Pernambuco, situando-o nao num contexto juridico-criminal, mas no plano do mito expresso pela frase que caracterizou os primeiros habitantes do Brasil: Eles vivem sem lei nem rei e sao felizes!. Teoriza que o fenomeno do cangaco seria a expressao mais agreste de um irredentismo reagente a invadencia colonial europeia, uma janela aberta para o instinto brasileiro profundo. RESUME L'emasculation reelle dans le cangaco: note preleminaire a l'etude de ce fait. v31, n1, p7-14, jan/jun, 2003 Comme le suggere le titre, l'auteur relate l'episode d'emasculation perpetre par le fameux cangaceiro Virginio Fortunato, dans la commune de Buique, Etat de Pernambouc, en se placant non dans un contexte juridico-criminel, mais sur le plan du mythe exprime par la phrase qui caracterise les premiers habitants du Bresil: lis vivent sans roi ni loi et som heureux! Il developpe la theorie selon laquelle le phenomene du cangoco serait l'expression la plus agreste d'un irredentisme en reaction contre l'invasion coloniale europeenne, une fenetre ouverte sur l'instinct bresilien profond.
