Artefactos de ferro em contextos do Bronze Final do território português: novos contributos e reavaliação dos dados

Metallurgy and Cultural Artifacts

EnglishExcavations conducted in Late Bronze Age settlements in the Portuguese territory, namely in the “Beiras” region (Castelo Branco and Viseu) have provided new and consistent information related to the first iron artefacts encountered in the region. The archaeological contexts and C14 dates (previous to the 9th century BC., hence from Pre-Phoenician cultural contexts) of 28 records indicate a precocious incorporation and circulation of iron in the indigenous societies of the Late Bronze Age in the Western Iberian Peninsula. Amongst others, the following aspects will be emphasized: the concentration of iron in the interior, far from the coastline; the occurrence of iron in indigenous habitats known to be users and procures of bronze; the rudimentary production of soft irons with low microhardness levels; the possible bimetallism of its production, reveled by bimetallic artefacts depositions. portuguesEscavacoes realizadas em povoados do Bronze Final do territorio portugues, particularmente nas Beiras (Castelo Branco e Viseu), forneceram novas e consistentes informacoes sobre os primeiros artefactos de ferro nessas regioes. Sao estudados e /ou reavaliados 28 registos, cujos contextos arqueologicos e datas de Carbono 14 (anteriores ao sec. IX a.C.), portanto em ambientes culturais pre-fenicios, comprovam uma precoce incorporacao e circulacao do ferro nos substractos indigenas do Bronze Final do occidente Peninsular. Sublinham-se, entre outros, os seguintes aspectos: a sua concentracao no interior, longe do litoral; a sua ocorrencia em habitats... (Ver mas) indigenas caracterizados nao so por manipularem uma pujante metalurgia do bronze, como por saberem produzi-la; trata-se de producoes rudimentares de ferros brandos e microdurezas com valores relativamente baixos; o bimetalismo pode ser uma das suas caracteristicas, traduzido, quer em pecas bi-metalicas, quer em deposicoes bimetalicas.
