Performance of Gladiolus Under Delhi Conditions

Afield experiment was conducted to study tlw comparative performance of txoenty three cultivars of gladiolus at the research farm of the Division of Floriculture & Landscaping, LA.R.L, New Delhi. The cultivars viz., African Star, Anjali, Bis-Bis, Chandani, Dhanvantari, Friendship, Gold Beauty, Gold Dust, Hunting Song, Mayur (Check), Melody, Neelum, Rosespire, Sahezadey, Sancerre, Snow Prince, Suchitra, Sunayana, Suryakiran, Sylvia, Vandana, Vink's Glory and White Butterfly were evaluated under Delhi conditions during 2003–2004. The analysed data indicated that six cultivars viz., Dhanvantari, Anjali, Chandani, Gold Dust, Hunting Song and African Star were superior over others for various parameters of vegetative growth, flowering and corm production. On the basis of flowering, five varieties viz., Vink's Glory, Suchitra, Rose Spire, Gold Dust and Hunting Song may be grouped as early flowering and two late varieties such as Dhanvantari and Neelum lohile remaining sixteen varieties may be grouped as mid season flowering cultivars. Dhanvantari was found to be special grade, whereas Gold Dust and Synayana were to be considered as standard grade while remaining as utility grade according to length of spike.
