Resumo

The magnitude of the acid response to food in the jejunum and ileum has been measured in dogs in which the nervous connections to the pouch and the intestine have been disturbed as little as possible. The jejunum and ileum were found to play a larger role in the acid response to a meal than has previously been reported. The results of this study support the belief that vagal innervation of the fundic area of the stomach or the small intestine or both is essential for the proper function of the intestinal phase.
