Resumo

A way to have an efficient almost soot and NO x free Diesel engine operation is seen in the homogeneous Diesel combustion. The paper shows results for the part load operation (n = 2000 min -1 / IMEP HP = 3.3 bar) of a near-production CR Dl Diesel engine running in the homogeneous Diesel combustion mode. The injection strategy that produces a sufficient air/fuel homogenization under avoidance of cylinder wall wetting is the key to achieve a homogeneous combustion. The influence of the injection nozzle geometry and the injection timing on exhaust emissions, engine efficiency and combustion quality is presented. The production configuration of the injection nozzle leads to good results in the homogeneous combustion mode at lower part load allowing a conventional Diesel combustion at higher load. Further development has to focus on the improvement of the fuel conversion rate and on the efficient realization of high EGR-rates.
