An attempt to calibrate and validate a dynamic freeway model by using real data from Queen Elizabeth Way in Ontario, Canada, is described. The model used in this research is the one developed by H. Payne; one of the Phillips kinetic models was also applied for comparison purposes. The overall conclusion is that the models exhibit instabilities in their behavior and do not track real road data correctly. (Author)
