ResumoThe present article discusses the potentiality of games and playful activities in the promotion of learning and development of students with special educational needs. To better understand this discussion some episodes of observation will be used from the teaching practice of students with a degree in Pedagogy, in the initial grades of Elementary School of the Universidade Estadual de Feira de Santana (State University of Feira de Santana), in the city of Sao Sebastiao do Passe, Bahia, Brazil as well as the students' considerations about the use of playful activities in their pedagogical practice. These episodes were observed during the development of Games and Recreation, a curriculum component, and they point out to the efficiency of using games and playful activities to deal with people with special educational needs.
