Resumo

Eduardo Paolozzi's Bunk collages are often considered as prototypical works of Pop Art. The 45 collages were made in Paris and London from around 1947 to 1952. They feature consumer goods, sex symbols, and richly toned food advertisements cut from American magazines and dynamically combined. However, the makeshift quality of the works, along with their storage in different locations, raises the question of whether they were intended as works of art or whether they were private working material. The writer goes on to discuss the construction of the myth that surrounds the Bunk collages, with particular reference to the Paolozzi retrospective at the Tate Gallery in 1971.
