Resumo

Human activity may be responsible for the erosion of soils in different ways. The removal of riparian forests affects the Brazilian cerrado biodiversity and accelerates the erosion process. The study is about the environmental degradation of Mato Verde brook in the municipality of Babaculândia in northern Tocantins. The subject literature was reviewed; visits and photographic records in site were also made. The research findings were conclusive according to the different situations responsible for the environmental degradation observed along the banks of Mato Verde brook. Removal of riparian vegetation, erosion, buildings and rural facilities, grazing and subsistence crops are among the several situations responsible for soil erosion.
