The autors did a revision in 90 registered amputees, treated at Lar Escola Sao Francisco - Sao Paulo, since January 1993 until July 1995, with the purpose of map the epidemiologic profile of the own service. There was predominancy of men, with lower limb amputation above knee of vascular etiology; in patients higher of 50 years old. They observed that there is still much delay in the beginning of rehabilitation process; the mean duration of the treatment is larger than related at literature for almost ali leveis of amputation; the index of treatment abandonment are higher, even thus in cases of lower limb amputations; there is also much inadequacy and unknown, among doctors, about the rehabilitation process for amputees patients.
