Autores ResumoIn 1918, Magnus Hirschfeld, who founded the world's first gay rights organisation, opened the Institute for Sexual Research in Berlin, Germany, with the intention of making sexology a rigorous academic discipline. At this very dawn of understanding of sex and gender, when sex hormones were first being discovered and synthesised, renowned Danish artist Einar Wegener underwent one of the first documented gender reassignment surgeries to become Lili Elbe in 1930. Based on the 2000 novel by David Ebershoff, The Danish Girl is a beautifully moving and artistic biopic of the transgender pioneer, her stalwart spouse Gerda Wegener (Alicia Vikander), and their timeless journey of self-discovery.
