Bens comuns: uma análise linguística e terminológica (Commons: A Linguistic and Terminological Analysis)

ResumoPortuguese Abstract: A ampliacao das praticas de compartilhamento possibilitada pela digitalizacao e pelas redes computacionais tem levado pesquisadores a aplicar a nocao de commons (ou “bens comuns”) ao dominio dos intelectuais — em casos como o software livre, a Wikipedia e a publicacao cientifica em acesso aberto. Este artigo discute uma serie de questoes linguisticas e terminologicas que envolvem esse conceito e suas traducoes (em particular para o portugues): analisa algumas confusoes frequentes em relacao a ele, como a mistura das acepcoes juridicas, economicas e teologicas da expressao “bem comum”; apresenta as diferentes expressoes usadas para nomea-lo em outras linguas, discute-se os meritos e desvantagens das opcoes disponiveis em portugues, e argumenta em favor da opcao “bens comuns”.English Abstract: The expansion of sharing practices made possible by digitization and computer networks has led researchers to apply the notion of commons to the field of intellectual goods - in cases such as free software, Wikipedia and open access scholarly publishing. This article discusses a series of language and terminology issues surrounding this concept and its translations (particularly into Portuguese): the article examines some misunderstandings about it, as the confusion of legal, economic and theological meanings attached to the expression common good; presents the different expressions used to name it in other languages, discusses the merits and disadvantages of the options available in Portuguese, and argues for the option bens comuns.
