Resumo

Present work is an attempt made to evaluate the physico-chemical parameters concerned with the fish productivity and to record present fishery status of Barul reservoir, a fresh water body at Kandhar taluka, Nanded district of Maharashtra state. Limnological study was observed within the favourable range to endeavor for the fish culture practice. However, based on commercial catches and species composition of this reservoir the present cultivation practice was observed as an extensive type. Application of scientific management including selective species combination, supplementary feeding and use of organic and inorganic fertilizers for plankton growth will prove significant to enhance the fish production of this reservoir and ultimately for the subjection of such water bodies for their sustainable utility and to improve the socio-economic status of fishermen community of the rural area.
