ResumoTwo kinds of problems related to air pollution control in the industrial area of Barreiro/Seixal have been tackled by geostatistical methods: i) One is based on observations made over a large period of time at fixed monitoring stations; two different pollutant structures are identified and split by a threshold value of SO2. Spatial probability maps for the critical high spikes of SO2 concentrations are calculated by kriging indicator variables ii) For a given threshold the shape of the plume — high spikes of SO2 — is determined by transforming the estimated probability maps into morphological maps, fundamental tools for evaluation of the environmental impact on the area.
