The present article does a brief description of the periods of Velasco Ibarra, Assad Bucaram, Abdala Bucaram and Lucio Gutierrez where the symbologie of the leader toward the people was essential into the political Ecuadoran culture. The main goal is to describe the differences between populism and neopopulism in the Ecuador, and simultaneously to understand how the system has worked in every government; without ignoring the social and economic context for those periods.
