Resumo

Maytenus dasyclada, a shrub species native to the South and Southeast regions of Brazil, a branching treetop, is cultivated in Porto Alegre’s Botanical Garden Arboretum, where its ornamental characteristics were observed indicating a promising use for landscaping. This study was developed using seeds from one of the specimens of the arboretum collection. The objective was to determine the best seed harvest period for nursery production. Flowering and fruiting phenophases were observed weekly. At each collection period, at 90, 110, 126, 132, and 153 days after anthesis, the following parameters were evaluated: color of the fruits, seed moisture and dry matter content, germination potential, speed of germination and the averagegermination time. The harvest period indicated corresponds to the 132nd to 153rd days after theanthesis, when the seed moisture content oscillates between 50.8% and 45%.
