ResumoIn the light of the recent publications on the probable existence of an extensive Latin colonization program in Hispania during the Roman Republic, this paper reviews two communities like Salduie and Contrebia Belaisca which, though they did not enjoy a Roman legal‐administrative statute during the Republican period, show typical institutions, ways and cultural products of a privileged setting. This situation may be explained on the basis of the feasible influence of the likely Latin colonies of Hispania Citerior, in particular those fossilized through their transformation into [municipia] veteris Latii under Augustus.
