RESUMO: Neste trabalho, analisamos o romance O perfume : Historia de um assassino, de Patrick Suskind, best-seller dos anos 80 do sec. XX, caracterizado pela recuperacao de tracos da narrativa do sec. XIX: narrador onisciente, analise social e psicologica, descricao do espaco fisico e do elemento humano, criacao de um mundo fechado em que os eventos e os valores sao explicaveis e coerentes. Suskind, porem, nao trabalha apenas com estas caracteristicas da narrativa oitocentista. Ele opera com a intertextualidade e, tambem, com tracos caracteristicos do romance negro, da narrativa historica e das historias do sobrenatural. Deslocando o interesse do crime para o criminoso, um protagonista cujo olfato e sobre-humano, o escritor aproxima-se do romance negro, construindo uma obra marcada pelo prazer de contar uma historia. ABSTRACT: This paper analyzes the novel Perfume : The Story of a Murderer, by Patrick Suskind, best-seller of the eighties, characterized by the recovery of traits of the nineteenth-century narrative: omniscient narrator, social and psychological analysis, description of the physical space and human aspects, creating a closed world in which events and values are explained and consistent. Suskind , however, not only works with these characteristics of nineteenth-century narrative; he also uses intertextuality and devices of serie noire (thriller), historical narrative, and supernatural stories. Shifting the interest from the crime to the criminal, a protagonist whose sense of smell is superhuman, the writer makes his novel become similar to the black novel, building a work marked by the pleasure of storytelling.
