SUMMARY This paper compares results of computational efficacy from element by element techniques for solving equations systems which arise from the adaptive finite element methods, such as plane elasticity and convection diffusion problems in 2-D. Comparative results are exposed for the symmetric problem of plane elasticity using the Conjugate Gradient method with Diagonal, Cholesky and Crout preconditioners. For the non symmetric problem of convection diffusion, Parabolic Regularization with accelerated relaxation and several Gradient Conjugate methods are applied. The experience from solving these problems with Multigrid method using element by element schemes for smoothing iterations and to solve the first grid system, is showed. This work is based in the study developed in Monterol'.
