ResumoThis article analyzes the configuration of the monstrous in «Ciclopropano» and «La semana escarlata», two short stories by Francisco Tario included in Tapioca Inn, mansión para fanstasmas (1952). Our hypothesis is that the presence of a fact openly described as monstrous does not only have a narrative effect function, but also builds a network of meanings that refer to a common element: that which violently breaks with the concept of the natural or naturalized cultural, and which is also related to a particular form of articulation of the fantastic genre.
