This article analyzes the configuration of the monstrous in ‏«Ciclopropano‏» and ‏«La semana escarlata‏», two short stories by Francisco Tario included in Tapioca Inn, mansión para fanstasmas (1952). Our hypothesis is that the presence of a fact openly described as monstrous does not only have a narrative effect function, but also builds a network of meanings that refer to a common element: that which violently breaks with the concept of the natural or naturalized cultural, and which is also related to a particular form of articulation of the fantastic genre.
