ResumoIn the Amazon, so many riverside communities work in the freshwater shrimp fisheries in order to complement their familiar income. Aims to understand this type of fishery at the Parintins municipality (Amazon), were performed visits at the sectors of shrimps Macrobrachium amazonicum fisheries from July to September of 2011. The study area is located around of Sao Sebastiao da Brasilia community that acts mainly in catch this shrimp species. In addition, information about boats types and traps utilized in this activity were collect. The data showed that 100% of the boats are canoes made by wood, moved by paddle or by boat engine locally recognized as rabeta. The trap used to catch the shrimp is the “camaroeira”, an innovated tool developed by the community members. The anglers utilize boiled fish to attract the shrimps into the trap. The fishery production average is about 20 liter/shrimp per angler in a day. In the high production period, the entire production is commercialized by the fisherwomen, at the central marked in the Parintins city. The gain in the fishery is about R$ 1,500.00/month for each angler. This activity has increased the income and improved the life quality for the Brasilia community's members. However, has accented the interest of the anglers from the other regions, which expected to acts in the shrimp fisheries in Parintins.
