PEREIRA, A.P. Evaluation of the education program in oral health from the School of Dentistry at Aracatuba. Aracatuba, 2002. 141 p. Thesis (Master degree in Public and Preventive Dentistry) School of Dentistry at Aracatuba, Sao Paulo State University “Julio de Mesquita Filho”. A health education program, to be considered effective, should be evaluated objectively. The aim of this study was to evaluate the education program in oral health developed by the School of Dentistry at Aracatuba – UNESP. For this, a qualitative investigation was performed among public school students from fifth and eighth grade of Aracatuba County. As criteria of sampling, all students should have studied at Aracatuba Public schools from first to forth grade. The data were collected by means of a questionnaire, designed with questions about the oral health, and analyzed by the software EPI 2000. Among 23 multiple-choices questions, the mean number of correct answers was 14 for fifth grade students and 15 for eighth grade students, which correspond to more than 50% of the questionnaire for both sample groups. Opened questions were analyzed by the content analysis method, and the answer such as “brushing teeth is important to avoid cavity” was noticeable, 79,2% of scholars from fifth grade and 77,2% from eighth grade demonstrated the positive influence of the program. Based on the results, it was possible to conclude that education program in oral health was effective and provided a reasonable level of knowledge with regard to oral health among the scholars attended by the program.
