Abstract : The Ethnography Muséum ofthe Muggio Valley (MEVM) sets itself apart from the traditional notion of a museum as a building with displays and collections of ethnographie objects. In 1980, the organizers of the MEVM adopted the then innovative concept of an "ecomuseum ", a term that stems from ideas developed in France in the field of the cultural promotion of the local territory. The creation of a museum in its local territory lies at the basis of all the activities promoted by the MEVM. This cultural heritage characterizes the museum and its environmental, historical and ethnographie contents are the main strengths of the MEVM. Through inventories, publications, projects and involvement in restoration schemes and cultural activities, the MEVM is engagea in promoting the appreciation of the landscape as a resource and as a source of wellbeing.
