ResumoThe article discusses documents related to the paintings Jacob's dream, by 16th-17th-century painter Lodovico Cardo (known as Cigoli) and St. John the Baptist, by Giovanni Baglione, both commissioned by Cardinal Alessandro Montalto. The author discusses Montalto's role as an art patron in early 17th-century Rome, Italy and describes other versions of Vigoli's painting. The author focuses on Giovanni Battista Cardi's biography of Cigoli and the circumstances of the painting's commission.
