Resumo:The studio model of the USS Enterprise used in filming the original Star Trek television program (NBC, 1966–69) began as a simple prop but gained celebrity as the universe of all things Star Trek expanded over time. Analyzing how a filming miniature came to be treated as a television star highlights the dual nature of celebrity, which rests in the body of the actor and exists as a separate but overlapping phenomenon. Examining the celebrity of an inanimate object highlights how the internal cohesion of Star Trek's megatext results from the interplay between production and consumption.
