In 1983 Eduardo Kac began researching the possibilities of holographic poetry, or holopoetry. This article briefly describes holopoems made between 1983 and 1988 and then focuses on the fractal holopoem Quando ? (When?), co-authored with computer artist, Ormeo Botelho. The authors present the basic concepts of fractal geometry as a tool for the creation of holographic art and show how it was used for the elaboration of Quando? In a technical appendix, they describe the process of digitally synthesizing a fractal holopoem.
