ResumoLayered black phosphorus exhibits highly anisotropic electrical, magnetic, and electrochemical properties. In their Communication on page 3382 ff., Z. Sofer, M. Pumera et al. report the analysis of these unusual observations by means of calculations and show that black phosphorus belongs to a group of materials known as topological insulators. The background picture shows the layered structure of Antelope Canyon, Arizona, USA.
